Women's Tennis Continues Dominance At Memphis Winter Invite

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team continued its dominance at the Memphis Winter Invitational Saturday, winning five of six doubles matches against BYU and Missouri and concluding the day by taking five singles versus Memphis at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
The Rebels have now won 18 of 21 matches heading into the final day of play Sunday. Saturday marked the debut of freshman Caroline Rohde-Moe (Bloomenholm, Norway), who arrived in Oxford Thursday night, and she didn't disappoint going 3-0.
The day began with doubles against BYU, where the Rebels won two of the three matches in shutouts. Gabby Rangel and Connor Vogel shutout Elle Carney and Desiree Tran 8-0 and then Laura van de Stroet and Caroline Rohde-Moe blanked Elizaveta Ezhova and Aubrey Paul 8-0.
Against Missouri, the Rebels switched up the doubles and won two of three. Rangel and Vogel defeated Maria Christensen and Jamie Mera 8-6, and van de Stroet and Guthrie downed Annemijn Koenen and Rachel Stuhlmann 8-2 to round out the doubles.
In singles, Kristi Boxx had to retire in her match to Courtney Collins tied at 3-3 in the first set, but the rest of the matches weren't close. Germantown native Connor Vogel downed Mariya Slupska 6-1, 6-0, Rohde-Moe cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stefanie Mikesz, van de Stroet downed Kelly Gray 6-3, 6-0, and Vivian Vlaar defeated Kathleen Hawkins 6-0, 7-5.
"Everybody did a great job tonight, head coach Mark Beyers said. "It's tough to play in that situation when you don't have a lot to gain. "Other than Kristi's match, we dominated the singles. They had a good crowd and were presented with a great opportunity. We just took care of business."
The Rebels will conclude the tournament Sunday with singles against Missouri at 8:30 a.m.
