Rebel Netters Conclude Successful Opening Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The 18th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team concluded a successful opening weekend to the 2011 season Sunday by winning all six singles matches against Missouri at the Memphis Winter Invitational. For the weekend, the Rebels went 24-3 in singles and doubles at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
Germantown native Connor Vogel had a great weekend in her old backyard, going 6-0 in singles and doubles. She concluded it Sunday with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win over Missouri's Kaitlyn Ritchie.
Norwegian standout Caroline Rohde-Moe made her debut this weekend and went 4-0 in singles and doubles. Against Missouri, Rohde-Moe came back to defeat Mallory Weber 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Abby Guthrie split sets with Maria Christensen before Christensen retired. Laura van de Stroet downed Jamie Mera 6-3, 6-0 to finish undefeated on the weekend and Gabby Rangel defeated Mahdi Besovic 6-3, 6-3 to also post a perfect record on the weekend. Freshman Vivian Vlaar also had a perfect weekend, topping Rachel Stuhlmann 6-3, 6-3.
"It was a good weekend. We got a lot of matches in," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We learned a lot about ourselves and each other. The girls got to keep score and were challenged, which is exactly what we wanted. We know what we need to work on to be ready for Southern Miss and then SMU."
Ole Miss will host Southern Mississippi Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the Gillom Sports Center. The match begins at 2 p.m., and admission is free.
