Track Set To Compete At Arkansas Invitational Friday

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss track team kicks off a new year with a trip to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Invitational on Friday.

The indoor meet is hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Oklahoma will be the third team competing in the triangular.

Field events are slated to begin at 1 p.m., with running events to start at 3 p.m.

The Ole Miss men are ranked No. 26 in the USTFCCCA Indoor Track & Field preseason computer rankings, while the Rebel women are No. 34.

Several Rebels rank among the top five of Division I athletes in their events this season, including five of the top marks in the nation. Mike Granger leads the nation with his time of 6.21 in the 55 meters. His converted 60-meter time of 6.67 is also tops in the country. Freshman Dante Oliver owns the top 400-meter time (47.56).

LaJada Baldwin owns the nation's top time in the 55 meters (7.03) and the 200 meters (24.08). Sofie Persson has the nation's top 400-meter time (53.93).

Other Rebel men in the nation's top five include Ricky Robertson in the high jump (2nd, 7-05.00 - NCAA qualifying mark), Isiah Young in the 200 meters (4th, 21.48), Granger in the 200 (5th, 21.55). Other Rebel women include Jasmine Williams in the 200 (4th, 24.35) and Kristin Bridges in the 200 (5th, 24.44).

Robertson's leap of 7-0.500 at the Arkansas State Kickoff Klassic broke his own school record. The All-American sophomore boasts the school high jump record in indoor and outdoor competition. Granger, also a sophomore with All-America honors to his credit, ran the second-fastest 55 meters in school history in the Rebels' first competition of the year.
