OXFORD, Miss. - Coming off of a 10th-place finish in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship, the Ole Miss men's golf team will travel to Shreveport, La. to compete in the David Toms Intercollegiate Oct. 17-18.
The Rebels competed in the event last year, held in Baton Rouge, La., finishing in seventh place.
Defending champion and host LSU leads an 11-team field that includes Mississippi State, Oklahoma, South Alabama, Louisiana Tech, and Louisiana-Lafayette. The tournament is a two-day event, with the opening two rounds taking place Monday at the par 72 Southern Trace Country Club.
"It has been a short break since our last tournament," said head coach Ernest Ross. "It was obvious that we didn't putt well in our last tournament, and we have focused on that in practice. We have worked on the mental side of putting, as well as the technique and physical aspects. I expect to see some real improvement."
Joe David leads the Rebels with a 70.22 stroke average. The senior has notched three top-20 finishes, including two top-fives in the opening two tournaments. David has finished all but two rounds at or under-par this season.
Senior Billy Brozovich has finished in the top-20 in two tournaments this season, highlighted by a third place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville.
Joining the two seniors in the lineup are freshmen Blake Morris and Joe Lewis and sophomore Tom Brown. The freshmen have made every trip so far this season.
