OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will honor Glynn Griffing of Jackson, Miss., with its Distinguished American Award and Roland and Sheryl Burns of Dallas, Texas, with the Contribution to Amateur Football Award at halftime here Saturday night when Ole Miss hosts No. 1 ranked LSU. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.

The Distinguished American Award is presented by the Ole Miss Chapter to individuals who have carried the lessons learned on the football field into a life of service to his community, while the Contribution to Amateur Football Award is given in honor of those who have made numerous contributions to the college athletics world through a lifetime of service to their fellow man.

"We are pleased to honor these three individuals for their contributions to Ole Miss athletics," said Frank Crosthwait of Indianola, Miss., president of the Ole Miss Chapter. "They are most deserving of this recognition."

Griffing, a native of Bentonia who played prep sports at Culkin Academy, was co-captain and quarterback of Coach John Vaught's 1962 Rebel squad which compiled a 10-0 record, the only undefeated and untied team in Ole Miss football history. That 1962 team also earned a share of the national championship.

Griffing, a first-team All-America selection in 1962, was voted as the Most Valuable Player of the 1963 Sugar Bowl and the 1963 Senior Bowl. He then played in the 1963 Chicago College All-Star Game when his team defeated the defending NFL champion Green Bay Packers, 20-17. Griffing played one season with the NFL New York Giants before entering private business.

A member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame, Griffing is owner and president of Glynn Griffing & Associates, an insurance agency and third party administration firm.

A long-time volunteer for Boy Scouts of America and Little League baseball coach, Griffing is a deacon and elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church and Sunday school teacher. He has gone on multiple mission trips to Mexico and Honduras and to the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, is a long-time Habitat for Humanity volunteer and is an active supporter of many local arts organizations and charities.

Roland and Sheryl Burns have shown exceptional support of the Ole Miss football program as well as the Ole Miss School of Accountancy.

Roland Burns, who earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Ole Miss in 1982, also serves on the School of Accountancy Advisory Board. After receiving his degrees, he spent eight years with accounting firm Arthur Anderson in Dallas before joining Comstock Resources, a publically held oil and natural gas company, where he has served as senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer.

Since his arrival, Comstock has grown from a market capitalization of $35 million in 1990 to more than $2.3 billion today.

In addition, from what began as an interest in their own children's school, Roland and Sheryl took on the responsibility for helping open what is now Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco, Texas. The school now has approximately
725 students on its 30-acre campus.
