NEW ORLEANS - After capping a brilliant career for Ole Miss track and cross country, Barnabas Kirui was honored this week with 2010 Division I All-Academic Cross Country status by the USTFCCCA.
Kirui is one of 56 athletes in the nation to receive the honor, which is given to student-athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and earned either USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2010.
He is one of three cross country student-athletes in the Southeastern Conference to make the prestigious list this season.
Kirui received the cross country honor for the second straight year. He also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic status in track and field following his junior year of outdoor competition.
The Litein, Kenya native earned his bachelor's degree in accounting last year with a 3.40 cumulative GPA. He began working toward a master's in accounting in the fall while competing in his final cross country season (in which he won the SEC individual championship for the third time in his career) and achieved a 3.33 GPA in his first semester of graduate school.
