Ole Miss Cross Country Teams Earn Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams were recognized this week for their achievements in the classroom as well as the running course, earning 2010 Division I All-Academic Cross Country status by the USTFCCCA.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.

The Rebel men boasted a cumulative team GPA of 3.12 in 2010 and were one of 152 institutions to earn All-Academic honors. The Rebel women excelled in the classroom with a team GPA of 3.47 and were one of 192 institutions on the list.

Earlier in the week, three-time SEC Champion Barnabas Kirui was recognized individually with USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country status. He graduated in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in accounting after compiling a 3.40 GPA in his undergraduate career, and he began work toward his master's degree in accounting in the fall, compiling a 3.33 semester GPA.
