Rebs Host Memphis, Arkansas State In Midweek Contests

THIS WEEK FOR OLE MISS:
Ole Miss will play its first mid-week games of the season with a game against Memphis on Tuesday and a game against Arkansas State on Wednesday. Both games start at 3 p.m. The Rebels will then hit the road for the weekend with a three-game series at the University of Houston. Friday's game begins at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

NEXT WEEK FOR OLE MISS:
Ole Miss will return home for five games next week when the Rebels play a two-game mid-week series against Austin Peay on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Rebels will then continue to play at home with a three-game series against the Tulane Green Wave.

OM - Matt Tracy, Sr., LHP
NOTING TRACY: Senior left-hander Matt Tracy makes his first start of the 2011 season when he takes the mound on Tuesday against the Memphis Tigers. Tracy started four games in the 2010 season, but pitched mostly in a relief role as he helped the Rebels to an eighth consecutive NCAA Regional. The southpaw posted a 4-3 record last season with a save as he tallied a 5.85 ERA in 60.0 innings of work. Tracy struck out 48 and walked 28 in his 24 appearances on the year.

OM - R.J. Hively, Jr., RHP
NOTING HIVELY: Junior right-hander R.J. Hively will make his first start for the Rebels on Wednesday when he takes the mound against Arkansas State at 3 p.m. The junior college transfer from Santa Ana College has already made one relief outing on the year against Wright State in the final game of a three game series. His team MVP at Santa Ana College and an All-California selection last season, Hively posted a 3.06 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 79.1 innings of work last year. He posted five wins and five saves in 21 appearances for Santa Ana College.

A LOOK AT MEMPHIS:
The Memphis Tigers enter the mid-week matchup against the Rebels holding to a 3-0 record after sweeping the series with Evansville this past weekend. The Tigers' 3-0 start is the best since 2006 when they opened the season with wins over Alabama, Oklahoma and Notre Dame. The start also equals the best start under seventh-year head coach Daron Schoenrock. At the plate, Memphis has gotten off to fast starts in all three contests. Behind the bats of Drew Martinez and Chad Zurcher, the Tigers scored 13 runs in the opening inning this weekend.

REBELS VS. MEMPHIS:
Ole Miss and Memphis have faced off against each other 133 times in the history of the series with the Rebels holding an 87-46 advantage in those contests. Under head coach Mike Bianco, the Rebels hold a commanding 17-3 edge in the series. The Rebels split with the Tigers last season, taking a 7-2 win in Oxford in February before falling to the Tigers 6-5 at Autozone Park in April.

A LOOK AT ARKANSAS STATE:
Arkansas State will play a Tuesday night contest against Murray State in Jonesboro before facing off against the Rebels on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Wolves went 0-3 in the opening weekend of play, dropping contests to No. 23 Auburn, No. 13 Virginia and UAB in a tournament at Auburn. Arkansas State is led at the plate by Jordan Castaldo and Logan Uxa who both started all three games and hit .364 for the weekend. The Red Wolves scored 10 runs in those three games and hit .250 as a team. On the mound, Arkansas State holds a 6.48 ERA as a pitching staff and allowed 25 runs on 30 hits for the tournament. Opponents hit .303 against the Red Wolves pitching staff.

OLE MISS VS. ARKANSAS STATE:
The Rebels and Red Wolves have faced off on the baseball diamond 82 times in the history of the two schools with the Rebels holding a 62-20 lead in the all-time meetings. Last season, the Rebels took both meetings with Arkansas State by grabbing a 3-2 win in Oxford and taking a 5-2 win in Jonesboro.
