OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel softball team will open its 2011 home season with Mississippi Valley State at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.

The Rebels (2-8) picked up a win over Fordham over the weekend at the USF-Fairfield Inn & Suites Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. Senior Brittany Barnhill paced the Rebels in the circle with an 11.1 scoreless inning streak over two games. Freshman RT Cantillo led the Rebels at the plate with four hits and five RBI while Amanda Hutcheson also recorded four hits during the weekend.

Ole Miss holds a 5-1 advantage over the Delta Devilettes including a win in the last matchup in 2007. MVSU enters the mid-week tilt with a 3-2 record on the year after dropping a game at Central Arkansas last week.

Fans attending the game will notice a new LED video and scoreboard that has been installed in right field. The video board, which measures approximately 13 feet high by 23 feet wide, will have the ability to showcase live and recorded video images, animation and graphics with incredible brightness and wide-angle visibility.

Among the other renovations scheduled for the Ole Miss Softball Complex this season will be outfield terrace seating beyond the wall in left field that will provide unique views of all the action, similar to the outfield seating at Ole Miss' baseball stadium, Swayze Field. Amenities will include a grilling area, pavilion and a camera platform area in center field. Bleacher seating will also be added in right field to accommodate the expected crowds for the SEC Tournament.
