Joe David Paces Rebels At John Hayt Collegiate

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - Junior Joe David fired a 2-under 70 in the first round of the John Hayt Collegiate to pace the Ole Miss men's golf team Sunday, at Sawgrass Country Club.
David carded five birdies, and birdied every par 5 to land in a tie for 12th, just three back of the lead.
"Joe had a good opening round of 70 and I am pleased for him," head coach Ernest Ross said. "He has worked hard his entire time at Ole Miss. I believe he is an All-SEC player, and he is starting to play like that."
The Rebels as a team posted an opening round of 293. Senior Jonathan Randolph was 1-under through 10 holes, but then a double-bogey cost him, and he finished with a 73. Junior Billy Brozovich and sophomore Chad Bounds both posted 75s, and Zach Primavera turned in a 77.
"I was disappointed with our team finish today. We just didn't get it done as a team," Ross said. "We corrected some errors in practice after the round. We can make a move up the leaderboard if we play like we are capable."
Auburn, ranked No. 13, and TCU, both shot 6-under 282 to take the lead. Seventh-ranked LSU is two back at 284, 20th-ranked Arkansas is three back at 285 and second-ranked Florida shot 286 to round out the top five. LSU's John Peterson shot 67 and leads five other players by one.
