Haley Millsap Leads Rebels At AllState Sugar Bowl Classic

OXFORD, Miss. - Junior Haley Millsap shot even par in the first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic here Sunday at the English Turn Golf and Country Club to lead the Ole Miss women's golf team.
Millsap was 1-over through nine holes after a double-bogey on the 18th (her ninth), but carded back-to-back birdies on four and five (her 13th and 14th holes) to finish the first round in a tie for 11th. Millsap is just two back of the top five.
"Haley really handled her game beautifully today," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "She played some great strategic shots and had a short term memory of the ones that she could have executed better."
As a team, Ole Miss shot 303 and stands in 13th. Junior Natalie Gleadall shot 75, Ashley Lance posted a 77, and Haley Sanders and Jillian Brodd shot 79. Brodd had the highlight of the weekend so far, recording a hole-n-one in the practice round on Saturday.
"The team played much better than we scored. When we made the turn the wind picked up to two to three club wind, and we are learning to handle it. Now the next step is to handle the conditions every shot, commit and own it," Drinkard said. "We are looking forward to the challenge tomorrow and to keep improving as a team."
Host Tulane fired an even par 288 to lead Duke (290) by two. LSU is three back at 291, Arizona State sits in fourth at 293, and Vanderbilt is fifth with a 294. Laetitia Beck of Duke carded a 6-under 66 for the individual lead.
