Rebels Set To Host Austin Peay In Midweek Series

THIS WEEK FOR OLE MISS:
Ole Miss returns home to kick off a 15-game home stand with a pair of mid-week games against Austin Peay at O-U Stadium/Swayze Field. Both games will start at 6:30 p.m. The Rebels will then host the Tulane Green Wave in a three-game series over the weekend with start times of 6:30, noon and 1:30 p.m. to accomodate the men's basketball game against Arkansas on Saturday.
NEXT WEEK FOR THE REBELS:
Ole Miss will continue to play at home next week when the Rebels host a pair of midweek games against Western Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Rebels will then continue home action with a three-game series over the weekend against Lipscomb. Start times for that series are 6:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCH-UPS:
TUESDAY, 6:30 P.M.
APSU - Jack Snodgrass, Sr., LHP
OM - Matt Tracy, Sr., LHP
NOTING TRACY: Junior LHP Matt Tracy makes his second start of the season and third appearance of the year. Tracy has turned in 7.2 innings of work and struck out nine while walking only two. He has allowed three runs in that time. Tracy's first start of the season came against Memphis (2/22) with a relief appearance at Houston (2/26). Against Memphis, Tracy worked 6.0 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.
WEDNESDAY, 6:30 P.M.
APSU - Alex Belew, RFr., LHP
OM - Mike Mayers, Fr., RHP
NOTING MAYERS: Mayers makes his first start of the season for the Rebels after making two relief appearances earlier this season. The right-hander has worked 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in those outings. Mayers' previous two outings came against Memphis (2/22) and at Houston (2/26).
A LOOK AT AUSTIN PEAY:
The Governors of Austin Peayenter the midweek series with an overall record of 3-0 on the year and are coming off a weekend that saw the Govs down Illinois State before having their second game of the weekend cancelled due to weather. Austin Peay is batting .322 as a team and are led at the plate by Jordan Hankins who is batting .688 with a home run and a team-leading eight RBI through four games. The pitching staff holds a 4.26 ERA and have allowed 20 runs on the year. The staff has posted 40 strikeouts with only 23 walks and have held opponents to a .259 batting average so far this season.
OLE MISS VS. AUSTIN PEAY:
Ole Mss and Austin Peay have faced off a total of 17 times in the history of the two programs with the Rebels holding a 15-2 lead. Under Mike Bianco, the Rebels hold an 8-0 record against the Governors.
HIT STREAKS ON THE LINE:
Blake Newalu enters the midweek series with Austin Peay holding the team's longest hit streak, of three consecutive games. Three other players hold multiple game hit streaks with Wil Allen, Zach Kirksey and Matt Snyder having hit safely in two straight games.
BUT SOME KEEP REACHING BASE:
Despite seeing hit streaks snapped throughout the season, perhaps one often overlooked aspect of the game is reaching base. Currently, three Rebels have reached base in eight consecutive games (Miles Hamblin, Preston Overbey and Matt Snyder), while Blake Newalu has reached base safely in seven straight games.
