OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team will open Southeastern Conference action this weekend as Rebels travel to Columbia, S.C. for a three-game series against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
This year three-game SEC series will be played under the new Friday-Saturday-Sunday format instead of a Saturday doubleheader and a single game Sunday. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., while Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m. and Sunday's series finale will start at 11 a.m.
The Rebels enter conference play with a 9-15 mark after taking a pair of games over Louisiana Tech and UTEP at the Courtyard Classic in Denton, Texas last weekend. Sophomore Brittany Broome leads Ole Miss at the plate with a .429 batting average and 14 runs scored. Senior Brittany Barnhill has added a team-best three home runs and 15 RBI on the season. In the circle, senior Lindsey Perry has posted a 6-3 record with a team-low 2.15 ERA.
The Gamecocks welcome the Rebels to Columbia after dropping a midweek double header at Mississippi State on Wednesday to open SEC play. South Carolina is 13-7 overall on the season and is lead by senior Lauren Mendes who is tied for the team lead with two home runs and has a team-best 15 RBI. Junior Audrey Broyles leads the Gamecocks in the circle with 1.85 ERA and a 3-1 mark.
Fans can catch all the action from this weekend's series live on the radio on 102.1 FM in Oxford, 101.3 FM in Grenada and online at RebSportsRadio.com.
The Gamecocks lead Ole Miss 21-13 in the all-time series, but the Rebels have won eight of the last 11 contests, including a double header sweep last season in Oxford.
