Natalie Gleadall Leads Ole Miss At LSU Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. - Junior Natalie Gleadall led the Ole Miss women's golf team at the LSU Classic Friday with first round 74 at the University Golf Course.
The newly renovated course seemed to win the battle on Friday, providing a stern test for the elite field. Ole Miss shot a 314 and they weren't alone in the higher scores.
No. 17 Wake Forest has the first round lead in the field of 21 teams that includes 15 of the top 50 teams with a six-over par 294 to hold a four-shot lead going into the second round. Texas A&M is second at 298 and No. 5 LSU and No. 4 Duke are tied for third at 12-over 300. No. 1 Alabama and No. 7 Virginia, the defending champion of the last LSU Golf Classic at the University Club in 2009, are tied for fifth at 13-over 301.
"University Club played tough today," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "They have renovated the course, and the greens are elevated and very firm. I would say at first we were intimidated but our team has a lot of heart and played with confidence on our second nine to give us momentum for tomorrow's round."
Gleadall recovered from an early double bogey to shoot 2-under on the back nine and is tied for 13th, just three back of the leaders.
"Natalie played a great round of golf today," Drinkard said. "She started her day with a double and chose not to let it shake her up and to continue with her plan. Once she did start hitting greens then she made some birdies and played her second nine 2-under."
