THIS WEEK FOR OLE MISS:
Ole Miss continues to play at home this week with a single midweek contest against Jackson State on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Rebels then kick-off Southeastern Conference play over the weekend with a three-game series against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Friday's game will begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's game is at 2 p.m. on SportSouth and Sunday's game is set for a 1:30 p.m. start.
NEXT WEEK FOR THE REBELS:
Ole Miss will play a single midweek game at home against the Samford Bulldogs on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before taking to the road for a swing of eight straight contests away from Swayze Field. That strech starts in SEC play at Knoxville when the Rebels take on Tennessee in a three-game series. Saturday and Sunday's games have been picked up for TV.
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCH-UPS:
TUESDAY, 6:30 P.M.
JSU - TBA
OM - Matt Tracy, Sr., LHP
NOTING TRACY: Senior left-hander Matt Tracy makes his fourth start for the Rebels when he takes the mound against Jackson State on Tuesday night. Tracy is 1-1 in three starts and has made four appearances on the year. The southpaw has struck out 18 batters while walking only six through 14.2 innings of work. Tracy has allowed 10 runs in his time on the mound with starts against Memphis, Austin Peay and Western Kentucky. He picked up the win against Memphis, took no decision against Austin peay and suffered the loss last week against Western Kentucky.
A LOOK AT JACKSON STATE:
The Jaguars of Jackson State enter the Tuesday night contest after posting a doubleheader sweep of Alcorn State over the weekend to move to 7-7 on the year. Jackson State has won five of their last six contests, with the only blemish being the opening game of the three-game set at Alcorn State this past weekend. Two of the top hitters for the Jaguars have been Charles Epperson and Desmond Russell. Both are hitting above the .300 mark.
OLE MISS VS. JACKSON STATE:
Ole Miss and Jackson State have faced off four times in the history of the two teams with the Rebels holding a 4-0 record in those contests. The last meeting came in 2009 with the Rebels claiming an 8-7 win.
SOME HAVE HIT STREAKS ON THE LINE:
Two Rebels hold hit streaks of more than one game heading into Tuesday's contest with Jackson State. Matt Smith has hit safely in three consecutive games, while Taylor Hightower holds a two game hit streak.
OTHERS KEEP REACHING BASE:
While hit streaks are an eye-catching stat, an often overlooked stat is reaching base. Tanner Mathis (6) leads the team in consecutive games reaching base, while Taylor Hightower (4) and Matt Snyder (4) are right behind him. Austin Anderson, Blake Newalu and Matt Smith have all reached base three straight games. Matt Snyder held the longest streak this year with 12 games.
