Randolph Lands At Top Of Leaderboard At Hootie

AWENDAW, S.C. - Ole Miss men's golf head coach Ernest Ross said conditions for Monday's second round of the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate were some of the worst he's ever seen as a player or coach. When the Rebels teed off it was 43 degrees, winds were 20mph and it was raining.

Senior Jonathan Randolph showed why he was a first team All-American last year, carding a 2-under 69 in those conditions to go with Sunday's 3-under 68 landing him at the top of the leaderboard heading into Tuesday's final round.

As a team, Ole Miss shot another 289 and stands in seventh place at 578, with one round to go. Junior Joe David posted a 72 to go with a first round 70 and is tied for 14th at 142. He is just three shots back of the top five. Billy Brozovich shot 73 and Chad Bounds carded a 75 to round out the round two scoring.

"Today was tough," Ross said. "Being the first team off was a real disadvantage. We were on-and-off the course several times with rain delays. It took us 8 hours and 45 minutes to finish. The last groups off did not have nearly the same rain or wind. I am proud of our players for being mentally tough in a real test of wills. Jonathan has played great and smart for both rounds. He is an excellent leader."

Randolph won three times last year and has been in contention in previous tournaments this year. He leads Wake Forest junior Lee Bedford and Augusta State junior Patrick Reed by one. Bedford was tied with Randolph at 5-under, until he bogeyed the final hole. Five other players are just two back.

Reed helped Augusta State card a 282 to take the team lead with a 563. They lead LSU (565) by two. Wake Forest is in third at 568, Auburn holds fourth at 569, and Texas A&M stands fifth at 570.

The Hootie features seven teams in the Top 25.

The Rebels will tee off the final round Tuesday beginning at 10:40 a.m. CT. Randolph starts his quest for the title at 11:00 a.m. Follow along with live stats by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the link in the calendar.
