Rebels To Face In-State Foe Mississippi State

OXFORD, Miss. - After picking up a win over No. 22 Auburn over the weekend, the Ole Miss softball team will continue its road swing with a trip to in-state rival Mississippi State for a three-game series beginning on Friday.

First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 5 p.m., at the MSU Softball Field, while the Saturday and Sunday contests are scheduled for 1 p.m. Fans can hear all the action on 102.1 FM in Oxford, 101.3 FM in Grenada and online at RebSportsRadio.com.

The Rebels enter the weekend matchup with a 12-24 overall record and a 2-9 mark in SEC play. Ole Miss is led at the plate by freshman RT Cantillo, who is batting a team-high .322 and ranks second on the squad with 15 RBI. Junior Cali Overbeck has belted a team-best four homers this year, while senior Brittany Barnhill leads the Rebels with 16 RBI. In the circle, senior Lindsey Perry has posted a team-best 9-3 record with a 2.69 ERA in 80.2 innings.

Mississippi State is 17-17 on the year with a 5-5 record in conference action. The Bulldogs are led by seniors Ali Bainbridge, who boasts a team-high .389 batting average, and Courtney Nesbit, who has hit a team-best seven home runs and knocked in 28 runs. Kylie Vry leads the Bulldogs in the circle with a 3.74 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 93.2 innings pitched.

MSU leads the all-time series 29-19, but the Rebels have won 11 of the last 18 meetings including taking 2-of-3 from the Bulldogs a year ago. Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson is also 11-7 in her career versus the Bulldogs.
