OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss has hired Matt Ball as its Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, it was announced here Friday.

After serving as a director of compliance with the University of Oklahoma athletics department since 2007, Ball joins the Ole Miss Rebel family and will oversee all aspects of the athletics compliance office.

"At Ole Miss, the compliance function is one of the most important areas in the athletics department," said Athletics Director Pete Boone. "Selecting a proper fit is critical. After an extensive national search, Matt Ball was selected to lead the Ole Miss compliance department. He has experience, knowledge of NCAA rules and the ability to build professional relationships with coaches."

While at Oklahoma, Ball was responsible for the management of many areas within the compliance office and served as a primary contact for NCAA and Big 12 rule interpretations for coaches, administrators, staff, student-athletes and boosters.

Ball began his compliance career during a practicum with the University of Tennessee women's athletics department in 2003. He was an intern at Lamar University during the fall of 2003 before being named a compliance coordinator at Baylor University in the spring of 2004. After less than two years, he was promoted to a director of compliance at Baylor, a position he served until his move to Oklahoma in May 2007.

A 2001 graduate of Central Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in secondary education (business), Ball also holds a master's degree in sport management from the University of Tennessee.

He and his wife, Erin, have three boys: Braden (6), Camden (3) and Cason (1).

"My family and I are extremely excited about this opportunity at Ole Miss," Ball said. "We look forward to our transition to Oxford and getting integrated into the community."

Ball takes over the Ole Miss position previously held by David Wells, who retired after 17 years as the compliance director and 37 total years as an Ole Miss player, coach and administrator.
