OXFORD, Miss. - Despite allowing just two hits in the game, errors doomed Ole Miss as the Rebels dropped the series finale 4-0 to No. 23 LSU on Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
Ole Miss starter Kendall Bruning did not allow a hit through the first four innings before running into trouble in the fifth. After issuing a pair of walks around a single to load the bases, LSU shortstop Juliana Santos knocked a fly ball to right that was dropped by outfielder Amanda Hutcheson and allowed two runs to score. A Cali Overbeck fielding error allowed another run to score and left fielder Ashley Langoni added an RBI single later in the inning that put the Tigers up 4-0.
The Rebel bats mustered just one hit in the game a Brittany Barnhill single through the right side of the infield in the fifth inning.
Bruning suffered the loss after allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits in 4.1 innings of work. Barnhill entered in relief in the fifth and pitched a scoreless final 2.2 innings. She did not allow a hit and struck out two.
Next up, Ole Miss will travel to Lexington, Ky. for a double header against the Kentucky Wildcats on Wednesday.
