THIS WEEK FOR OLE MISS:
Ole Miss will play a single midweek game at home this week, facing Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ole Miss will then go back on the road with a three-game series at #5 Florida that will be over the next weekend. Friday and Saturday's games are set for 6 p.m. with Sunday's game set for a noon start.
NEXT WEEK FOR THE REBELS:
The Rebels will play the final regularly scheduled midweek contest next week when Ole Miss travels to take on the Red Wolves of Arkansas State on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for May 10, but was moved because of finals. The Rebels will then return home to face South Carolina in a three-game series at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCH-UPS:
WEDNESDAY, 6:30 P.M.
UAPB - Redmond Floyd, Fr., RHP
OM - Matt Tracy, Sr., LHP
NOTING TRACY: Senior left-hander Matt Tracy makes his 11th appearance on the season and 10th start of the year when he takes the mound against UA-Pine Bluff on Wednesday. Tracy holds an overall record of 3-3 on the year with an ERA of 4.43 through 42.2 innings of work. Tracy has struck out 50 batters on the year with 24 walks and has held hitters to a .280 batting average against through the 10 appearances.
A LOOK AT UAPB:
The Lions of UA-Pine Bluff enter the midweek game with an overall record of 10-29 on the year and are coming off a series loss at the hands of Prairie View. As a team, the Lions are hitting .282 with Christian Matz leading the way. Matz holds a .344 batting average with a team-leading 24 RBI on the season. Barry McDonely leads the power output with three home runs to date. Freshman right-hander Redmond Floyd is slated to start against the Rebels and holds a 14.46 ERA and has posted a 2-3 record on the year. He has struck out 15 and walked 29 to date while allowing batters to hit at a 389 clip.
OLE MISS VS. UAPB:
Ole Miss and UAPB have faced off twice with the Rebels claiming both meetings between the two teams. Ole Miss won the first meeting in 2009 and claimed the second meeting in 2010.
LAST TIME OUT VS. UAPB:
Ole Miss defeated the Lions of UAPB on March 16, 2010 by a score of 17-1 in Oxford. In that game, the Rebels were led offensively by Taylor Hashman who notched six RBI and scored six runs on a 3-for-4 performance.
SOME HAVE HIT STREAKS ON THE LINE:
Several players hold hit streaks heading into the contest with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, led by senior OF/LHP Matt Tracy. Tracy has hit safely in nine straight games. Matt Snyder (3) also has an active hit streaks of more than two games coming into the midweek game.
OTHERS KEEP REACHING BASE:
While Tanner Mathis saw his 23 game hit streak end at Auburn, the sophomore has reached base in more consecutive games. Mathis currently holds a streak of 30 straight games reaching base. Matt Smith had reached in 14 consecutive games before failing to reach base in Friday night's game against Georgia. Blake Newalu (10) and Matt Smith (10) hold the second longest active streaks for reaching base safely, with Matt Tracy working on another streak at nine consecutive games reached.
SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR THE REBELS:
Ole Miss has a schedule change for later in the season when the Rebels take to the road to face Arkansas State. Originally slated for a 6:30 p.m. game on May 10, the Rebels will now travel to face Arkansas State on May 4. Game time is still set for a 6:30 p.m. start on the new date.
