OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss women's tennis team dropped a close 4-3 match to No. 27 Alabama here Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. The Rebels will host Auburn Sunday at 1 p.m.

For the third straight match, the Rebels fell behind early by losing the doubles point. Alabama claimed an 8-1 win at No. 2 and then clinched the point 8-2 at No. 3.

The Rebels came out much better in singles, as they won the first set at four and six and could have taken the first set at one and five.

The Crimson Tide's Alex Guarachi won the first set at two against senior Connor Vogel and that propelled her to a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 to give her team a 2-0 lead.

The Rebels then fell behind 3-0 as Kristi Boxx saw her lead go away at No. 1. The All-American, ranked No. 30 nationally, served for the first set at 5-2 and then again at 5-4 against 40th-ranked Mary Anne Macfarlane. Macfarlane won eight straight games to take the first set 7-5 and a 3-0 lead in the second. She would go on to win the second set 6-3.

Ole Miss got on the board when freshman Vivian Vlaar defeated UA's Taylor Lindsey 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 and senior Laura van de Stroet finished off Alex Clay 6-1, 7-6(3) at No. 4 to pull the Rebels within one (3-2).

The match ended when the Tide's Antonia Foehse rallied to win the second set tiebreaker for a 7-5, 7-6(5) victory. Guthrie broke Foehse to get the second set to a tiebreak and led 3-0 before Foehse won seven of the next nine points.

Freshman Caroline Rohde-Moe came back to beat Courtney McLane 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the final 4-3 score. Rohde-Moe picked up her second straight ranked win, as McLane is ranked No. 111 in singles.

The Rebels will try to snap a three-match losing streak as Auburn comes calling on Sunday. The Tigers defeated Mississippi State 4-1 in Starkville.
