Ole Miss Falls To No. 8 Tennessee

OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman shortstop Natalie Nimmo went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, but No. 8 Tennessee knocked off the Rebels 10-3 Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
The Rebels (13-28, 3-13 SEC) and the Lady Vols will conclude their three-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net-South. Dave Neal will handle play-by-play duties and Cheri Kempf will provide color analysis. The first 100 fans will receive a free t-shirt.
Tennessee (33-6, 11-4 SEC) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a passed ball and an RBI single from second baseman Lauren Gibson. Designated player Jessica Spigner extended the lead to 3-0 in the third with a solo home run to left.
The Lady Vols added three more runs in the fourth highlighted by RBI singles from Gibson and third baseman Raven Chavanne that gave Tennessee a 6-0 lead.
Nimmo responded for the Rebels in the bottom of the fourth with a bases-loaded single up the middle that plated Brittany Broome and Cali Overbeck. First baseman Erinn Jayjohn added a RBI single to right later in the frame that scored pinch runner Becca Wall and cut the Orange lead to 6-3.
Tennessee extended its lead with four more runs in the sixth highlighted by a two-run double to left center from first baseman Melissa Davin that put the Lady Vols up 10-3.
Brittany Barnhill started for the Rebels and took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 0.1 inning of work. Lindsey Perry relieved Barnhill in the first and pitched the final 6.2 innings. She gave up eight runs, all earned, on ten hits and struck out six.
