ATHENS, Ga. - Senior Juliana Smith finished runner-up in the hammer throw and several others advanced past the preliminaries over the first two days of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Spec Towns Track in Athens, Ga.

Smith, an All-American in the indoor season, finished second in the hammer throw with a solid mark of 189-0 to earn eight points for the Rebel women. She came into the meet ranked 12th in the country with a school-record throw of 202-11 earlier this year.

Also scoring for the Rebel women on Friday was a pair of heptathletes. Freshman Mary Ashton Nall broke her own school freshman record with 5,195 points to place sixth, and sophomore Brittany Bozeman finished eighth with a score of 4,885.

With three of 21 women's events in the books, Ole Miss sits in third place with 12 team points.

Ole Miss finished first, third and fifth among competitors in the men's 400 meter hurdles, with senior Lee Ellis Moore posting the top time in the first round at 50.93. Juniors Carson Blanks (51.72) and Ras-Len Bully (52.04) helped make it a dominating event for the Rebels on Friday.

Also advancing in the women's 400 meter hurdles was senior Sofie Persson, who won her heat and claimed the third-best time in the preliminary round with a 58.52.

In the men's and women's 200 meter races, Jonathan Juin (20.88) and LaJada Baldwin (23.63) just missed qualifying for the finals with a 10th and ninth place finish, respectively.

Competition in one of the nation's elite track and field meets continues Saturday with more preliminaries and finals, with the meet concluding with a number of final events on Sunday.
