OXFORD, Miss. -Ole Miss women's tennis junior All-American Kristi Boxx will begin play in the NCAA Individual Championships Wednesday at the Taube Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif.
Boxx, a native of Grenada, Miss., will face Florida State's Noemi Scharle in the first round Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT. Boxx is also in the doubles with Abby Guthrie. They will face Clemson's Keri Wong and Josipa Bek Thursday.
This marks the third consecutive appearance in singles for Boxx, who reached the third round last year on her way to becoming the eighth All-American in the history of the program. She earned All-SEC first team honors for the third year in a row, becoming the second player in program history to accomplish that feat.
Boxx, ranked No. 37 in the nation, owns a 21-11 overall record and has won four in a row and six of her last seven coming into the NCAA Singles Championship. In her last action, Boxx defeated the 19th-ranked player in the country in the Rebels' heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Arizona State in the NCAA first round.
This will mark the first ever meeting for the two players. Scharle, a sophomore, comes in ranked No. 51 with a 19-11 record.
This is the third year in a row for Boxx to be in the doubles championship and the first time for Guthrie. Boxx participated the last two years with former All-American Karen Nijssen. Boxx and Guthrie own a 20-11 overall record.
