STANFORD, Calif. - Ole Miss women's tennis junior All-American Kristi Boxx had to wait all day and then some to finally get on the court for her NCAA Singles first round match against Florida State's Noemie Scharle on Wednesday, but it didn't take near as long to win in straight sets.
Boxx, a native of Grenada, Miss., downed the Seminole 6-2, 6-3 to advance to a second round meeting against a familiar opponent, Allie Will (Florida). Will, the sixth seed, beat Emily Fraser of Virginia in straight sets a day after helping her team to a 4-3 win over Stanford for the NCAA team title.
The two players have met twice this year and split. Boxx defeated last year's SEC Freshman of the Year in the first round of the ITA All-American Main Draw, but Will won the regular season meeting.
Following her singles match, Boxx will team up with Abby Guthrie in the doubles against the Clemson team of Keri Wong and Josipa Bek.
