THIS WEEK FOR OLE MISS:

Ole Miss will have the week off from midweek games next week before playing the final home series in Southeastern Conference play against in-state rival Mississippi State. The contest is set for a Thursday-Saturday series with Thursday night's game being televised by ESPNU at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday's contests are both set for a 7 p.m. start and will be televised by SportSouth.
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCH-UPS:
WEDNESDAY, 6:30 P.M.
ASU - Andres Caceras, Sr., LHP
OM - Matt Tracy, Sr., LHP
NOTING TRACY: Senior left-hander Matt Tracy makes his 10th start of the season and makes his 11th appearance of the year when he takes the mound against Arkansas State. The southpaw holds a 3-3 record on the year and has turned in 42.2 innings of work this season. He has posted 50 strikeouts and walked 24 batters on the year, while holding opponents to a .280 batting average. It will be the first start in two weeks for Tracy, who missed the start last start when the game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff was canceled due to inclement weather.
A LOOK AT ARKANSAS STATE:
The Red Wolves of Arkansas State enter the midweek contest with an overall record of 22-24 and are coming off a series win over Middle Tennessee this past weekend. The Red Wolves are batting at a .267 clip on the year, but are led at the plate by Todd Baumgartner's .354 batting average. Baumgartner is tied for the team lead in home runs and RBI with Jordan Castaldo with both batters talling six home runs and 32 RBI on the year. The Red Wolves pitching staff holds a 4.27 ERA with 315 strikeouts and 149 walks to date. Starter Andres Caceras has made six appearances on the year with a 5.87 ERA in 7.2 innings of work.
OLE MISS VS. ARKANSAS STATE:
Ole Miss and Arkansas State have faced off 83 times with the Rebels holding a 63-20 lead in the all-time series. The first meeting came in 1951 with the Rebels splitting a two-game series.
LAST TIME OUT VS. ARKANSAS STATE:
Ole Miss and Arkansas State have faced off once already this season with the Rebels picking up a 4-3 win in Oxford.
SOME HAVE HIT STREAKS ON THE LINE:
Several players hold hit streaks heading into the contest with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, led by sophomore OF Tanner Mathis. Mathis has hit safely in three straight games after posting a 23 game hit streak earlier this season.
OTHERS KEEP REACHING BASE:
While Tanner Mathis saw his 23 game hit streak end at Auburn, the sophomore has reached base in more consecutive games. Mathis currently holds a streak of 33 straight games reaching base. Matt Smith had reached in 14 consecutive games before failing to reach base in Friday night's game against Georgia. Smith (13) can match that streak by reaching safely on Wednesday night at Arkansas State and is the only other player with an active streak of reaching base in more than two straight games.
23-GAME HIT STREAK:
Tanner Mathis worked his way into the record books this season when he posted a 23 game hit streak, the third longest hit streak in school history. The streak was snapped in the series finale at Auburn (4/23) after starting against Jackson State (3/15). The hit streak is second longest in a single season behind Cody Overbeck's 24 game hit streak in 2008. Brian Pettway set the record with a 28 game hit streak that spanned two seasons from 2004-2005.
REBELS ADD SEMO TO THE SCHEDULE:
Ole Miss has added a game to the schedule after losing two games to rain earlier this year. The SEMO Redhawks will come to Oxford on Tuesday, May 17 to face the Rebels in a 6:30 p.m. game.
