Moore, Blanks Advance At USA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Ole Miss athletes Lee Ellis Moore and Carson Blanks both advanced in the men's 400 meter hurdles during Friday's first round of the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field.

Moore and Blanks, who were both Outdoor All-Americans in 2011, finished among the top 16 in the first round to advance to Saturday's semifinals. Moore, the 2011 SEC Champion in the event who graduated in May, ran a 51.07 to place 13th among the country's top collegians and professionals. Blanks, a junior, clocked a 51.22 to place 15th.

Earlier on Friday, Rebel freshman Mary Ashton Nall placed sixth in the junior women's heptathlon with a score of 4,864. Freshman Fabia McDonald also competed in the junior heptathlon but had to withdraw early due to injury.

On Thursday, sophomore All-American Mike Granger competed in the senior portion of the 100 meters and ran a 10.39 to place 25th. The 2010 gold medalist in the U.S. junior 100 meters, he failed to advance past the first round in his first try among senior competitors.

In the men's junior javelin throw on Thursday, freshman Benjamin Lapane finished eighth with a heave of 199-1 (60.68 meters).

In addition to Moore and Blanks competing on Saturday, Rebel sophomore All-American and SEC champion Ricky Robertson will compete for a USA title in the high jump on Sunday.
