OXFORD, Miss. - While a former Rebel All-American is getting ready to tee it up at the PGA Tour's Viking Classic this week, the Ole Miss men's golf program added another talented player to its future with the signing of Alvaro Beltran, a native of Valencia, Spain, head coach Ernest Ross announced Tuesday.
One of the top junior players to come out of Spain this year, Beltran spent time at the IMG David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He earned a top-10 finish at an IMG Tour event this year. Beltran was a member of the Spain National Team and recorded two top-five finishes in the National Tournament as a junior.
"We learned of Alvaro late in the recruiting process and think he will be a great player for Ole Miss," Ross said. "He is a strong, powerful golfer that can use his length to his advantage. We are happy to have him coming and feel he will make an immediate impact on our team. He is a very good student and has a strong desire to be the best."
Beltran will join the team this fall along with previous signees Blake Morris, Chris Ingham and Joe Lewis.
