OXFORD, Miss. - Former Ole Miss players Jeremiah Masoli and Jonathan Cornell signed rookie free agent deals with NFL squads on Wednesday.
Masoli inked with the San Francisco 49ers as a running back, while Cornell signed with the Tennessee Titans as a linebacker.
In one season as the Rebels' quarterback after graduating from Oregon, Masoli started 11 of 12 games and completed 167 of 296 passes for 2,039 yards and 14 touchdowns. The San Francisco native set the Ole Miss record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 544. After the season, he played in the Eastham Energy All-Star Game, racking up a game-high 229 yards through the air with a touchdown and 25 yards on the ground.
Cornell tallied 219 tackles in four full seasons, including three as the starting middle linebacker for the Rebels. As a senior in 2010, the Azusa, Calif., native led the team and ranked 11th in the Southeastern Conference with 7.3 tackles per game. He also ranked sixth in the SEC with 14.0 tackles for loss and 18th with 4.5 sacks.
The duo joins 2011 NFL draft pick Jerrell Powe (Kansas City Chiefs) in the league. They make the 24th and 25th NFL players from Ole Miss over the last three years.
More undrafted Rebels are expected to be picked up by NFL teams in the coming days.
