Women's Tennis Tops In The Classroom Again

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team reigned supreme in the classroom in 2011 earning the prestigious ITA All-Academic Team Award for the 15th consecutive year, as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its yearly academic awards.
This award honors teams with outstanding academic achievements, requiring a minimum overall 3.2 grade point average to be considered. The Rebels finished the year with a 3.51 team GPA.
"It's a great honor to receive this award for a record 15th consecutive year," head coach Mark Beyers said. "I know it seems like it's easy because we've earned it so many years in a row now, but it's not. This is a big accomplishment. It shows that our student-athletes work hard both in the classroom as well as on the court. I couldn't be more proud of them."
The Rebels were one of five Southeastern Conference teams to earn this award.
The ITA also announced individual honors, with recent graduates Laura van de Stroet and Connor Vogel and upcoming senior Gabby Rangel earning recognition as ITA Scholar-Athletes. While excelling in the classroom, all three helped Ole Miss make the NCAA Championships for the 13th time and third year in a row.
Van de Stroet graduated in May with a degree in Marketing and posted a 3.89 GPA for the year to earn the honor for the third time. Vogel received her degree in Communications and boasted a 3.86 GPA picking up the accolade for the second year. Rangel recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA last year to earn the honor for the third time.
To be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the year.
