OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team hit the practice field Wednesday in full pads for the first time this preseason as preparation continued for the season opener against BYU on September 3.

"Today was a little bit tougher," head coach Houston Nutt said. "The pads put a little extra weight on them today and we got a little tired towards the end but we've had a pretty good few days of learning and there are a lot of installs going on right now and a lot of thinking. We find out a lot about them, especially our young people, about who can handle this mental part when we keep all these new installs coming in."

Nutt was pleased with the play of C.J. Johnson and Serderius Bryant. Freshman Senquez Golson's play also caught Nutt's eye today along with freshman, Chief Brown and Cody Prewitt.

"He can really run," Nutt said of Prewitt. "And I'm really excited about him."

Nutt is pleased with the physical play of redshirt freshman Ralph Williams.

"Ralph Williams has been really consistent for us and he is a very physical football player," Nutt said. "He's hard-nosed and he has really stepped up since D.T. Shackelford went down in the winter. Ralph has stepped up in the weight room and everywhere and I love his habits right now."

On the offensive side of the ball, Nutt was impressed with the play of a trio of players in Nick Brassell, Jamal Mosley and Tobias Singleton.

"Offensively, Nick Brassell picked us up today," Nutt said. "He seemed like he was the only receiver that got going. Jamal Mosley and Tobias Singleton as well but we've got to have more of those guys come on."

Nutt said he is looking forward to getting back out to practice tomorrow with full pads and continuing to work.

The Rebels return to the field Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and drills remain open to the public through Saturday (Aug. 13). Use of cellular phones and cameras are prohibited, and fans must remain in the designated area and are not allowed between the practice fields.
