Thomas Named Preseason All-SEC By League Coaches

OXFORD, Miss. - Senior middle blocker Regina Thomas has been selected as a preseason All-SEC pick by the league's coaches, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
A year after claiming All-America and All-SEC honors in a year shortened by injury, the senior captain was tabbed by the league's coaches as one of the top players to watch in the Southeastern Conference heading into the 2011 campaign.
Thomas paced the league a year ago, hitting .451 in conference play and hitting at a .421 clip on the season to claim All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association after earning All-SEC honors from the league's coaches.
The 6-1 middle blocker played in 23 matches last season before tearing her ACL and missing the final six matches of the season and the NCAA Tournament first round match against North Carolina. Despite missing the final three weeks of the regular season, Thomas put down 210 kills and averaged .253 klls per set to go along with 96 blocks.
Thomas and the Rebels open the 2011 season the weekend of August 26 at the Burnt Orange Classic hosted by the University of Texas. Ole Miss will kick things off in the weekend event with an exhibition match against the Israeli National team on Friday before facing off against Pepperdine and fourth-ranked Texas on Saturday, August 27.
