2011-12 Schedule
OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss men's golf team announced its 2011-12 schedule Wednesday, which includes many of the same tournaments from previous years and a couple of new ones.
"We're going back to a lot of our same tournaments, which will help our veterans. They've seen these courses," head coach Ernest Ross said. "We play a lot of our tournaments on courses that have hosted PGA or Nationwide Tour events. I am very happy with our quality of tournaments and the courses we'll be playing."
The Rebels, who have made five straight NCAA Regional appearances, will kick off the fall season Sept. 12-13 down the road in Hattiesburg at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Miss. Following the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, the Rebels will return to Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 23-25 to compete in the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt at the Legends Club.
October includes three tournaments. Kicking off the month, Ole Miss heads to Macon, Ga., Oct. 6-8 for the Brickyard Collegiate, followed by the David Toms Intercollegiate (Oct. 17-18) in Baton Rouge, La. The fall concludes Oct. 28-30 with the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate hosted by UNC-Greensboro.
Weather has been an issue at the start of the spring semester the past couple of years, so the Rebels pushed back their first tournament of the spring to Feb. 26-28 at the John Hayt Collegiate in Ponte Vedra, Fla. The John Hayt is played at Sawgrass Country Club, which hosts the PGA Tour Players Championship every year.
Spring Break has the Rebels returning to Statesboro, Ga., for the Chris Schenkel Invitational March 16-18. The Rebels will be among another elite field at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C., March 25-27.
The Rebels will host the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate April 2-3 at Reunion Golf Course in Madison in their final regular season tournament.
All-American Jonathan Randolph finished his outstanding career, so the Rebels will count on seniors Joe David and Billy Brozovich to lead the team this year. Also returning after redshirting last year due to injury, is Tom Brown. In addition to those three, the Rebels have added some freshmen who are expected to the help the team immediately.
"I am excited for the season to start," Ross said. "We will count on some experienced veterans and some talented newcomers. Our seniors Joe and Billy will be counted on for scoring and leadership. I really like the talent and enthusiasm of our incoming freshmen."
The SEC Championship returns to Sea Island, Ga., April 20-22. The NCAA Regionals will be held May 17-19 at six different sites, while the NCAA Championship will be at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. May 29-June 3.
