OXFORD, Miss. - Junior setter Amanda Philpot was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after leading the Rebels to the tournament title at the Magnolia Invitational, the league office announced on Monday.
Philpot helped the Rebels claim the Magnolia Invitational for the fifth straight season over the weekend with wins over Northwester, Central Arkansas and UALR.
The junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, hit .325 for the weekend and posted a triple-double in the Rebels' win over Northwestern from the Big 10 on Friday night. Against the Wildcats, Philpot put down 10 kills, 33 assists and a career-high 20 digs to help the Rebels to the win.
The triple-double was the third of Philpot's career. She put down a pair of triple-doubles last year and earned SEC Player of the Week honors after a triple-double on the road at Alabama to help the Rebels rally for the win.
All told in the weekend event, the setter put down 20 kills, came up with 37 digs and tallied 97 assists while adding 8.0 blocks as one of the most consistent performers for the squad.
It marks the second time Philpot has earned Player of the Week honors from the Southeastern Conference in her career.
The Rebels return to action this week with a pair of SEC West foes. Ole Miss will host LSU at 7 p.m. on Friday night and Arkansas at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. All matches are played at the Gillom Sports Center on campus and admission is free.
As a part of the weekend's matches, the Rebels will be sponsoring a "Red Out" against the Tigers on Friday night with fans receiving complimentary t-shirts for the event. Ole Miss will also be participating in the SEC "Together We Can" Canned Food Drive to collect canned goods for the local food pantry. Fans are encouraged to bring canned goods with them to either match over the weekend.
