HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Joe David shot a two-under 69 to notch his third career top-five individual finish, but the Rebels were unable to hold onto their lead atop the team standings and came in with a fifth-place finish at the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate at the Hattiesburg Country Club, Tuesday.

With the Rebels in first place going into the final day and South Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette, UAB, and Memphis nipping at their heels, it was UAB who emerged from the pack with a sparkling 11-under final round to take the championship with a 16-under overall score.

Ole Miss finished at 4-over for the day and six-under for the tournament.

"We didn't have a good day as a team," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "Joe David had a good day, but we didn't give him any help. We had a chance to win, but overall we didn't hit enough good shots today. We will work more and we may see some lineup changes."

David came out of the gate strong in Tuesday's final round, rolling in five of his seven birdies for the day on the front-nine. The senior from Madison, Tenn. was one of just three individuals to shoot in the 60's in each round and finished in fifth place overall-two strokes back from individual winner Blake Kelley of South Alabama. The 54-hole score of 206 was a career-best for David.

Senior Billy Brozovich earned his sixth career top-20 finish with a 1-over 72 in the final round to tie for 14th place. He was 2-under par for the tournament.

Joe Lewis also shot a 72, picking up three birdies in the back-nine to finish at 2-over overall and tie fellow Rebel frosh Blake Morris and sophomore Tom Brown, who was competing individually, for a 29th-place finish.

Junior Chad Bounds also competed for the Rebels and finished off the tournament with a 4-over round.

The Rebels will return to action Sept.23-25, as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. for the Mason Rudolph Tournament.
