The University of Mississippi is the home of traditions and legacies. Many students that attend Ole Miss are third or more generation students. Their grandparents attended games during the reign of Archie manning, and their parents cheered on Eli. Ole Miss is a family tradition and always will be.
The Holman twins Evalyn and Ginny, along with older sister Emma are very familiar with the concept of family tradition and consider it part of the reason they are attending school at Ole Miss.
"My dad went to school here and my older sister (Meredith) was already here," said Emma, a junior. Ole Miss has been in our family forever, and we all love it. I feel like I came here out of tradition more than anything."
Evalyn, a freshman, says her family is very proud of her decision to attend Ole Miss.
"Dad is definitely happy about it. He loves coming down here and visiting us," she said.
The Holman sisters' dad is proud that his daughters are attending Ole Miss and pursuing a degree, but he is also proud of them for following in his footsteps in another field. His daughters are not only students at Ole Miss but are also members of the rifle team.
"Dad was part of the Navy ROTC and did marksmanship stuff when he came here, so we have always known that we wanted to come here and shoot for this team," Emma said.
Competing with each other on the rifle team is something the Holman sisters think gives them an extra push towards excellence.
"It's nerve racking competing against my sisters, but I feel like we can learn a lot from each other," Ginny said.
Emma agrees with her younger sister. "We are going to have each others backs. If I'm having a bad day or if they are having a bad day, we will take care of each other"
Competing with three sisters on the same team has it advantages but coaching that team can be confusing."
"They all look the same from the back so it can get a little confusing," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "I have to look them straight in the eyes to tell the difference, especially the twins. They all have similar personalities and are very easy to coach. I am very glad to have them all."
The Holman sisters are ready for the team's first match, which is the Ole Miss Invitational Sept. 23 at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. Emma, Evalyn and Ginny continue to live out their family's traditions one shot at a time.
