OXFORD, Miss. -- After a fifth place finish at the Sam H. Hall Invitational in Hattiesburg last week, the Ole Miss men's golf team turns its attention to the Mason Rudolph Championship, a three-day event hosted by Vanderbilt Sept. 23-25.
There will be 13 teams joining the Rebels at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., including South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, and Oklahoma.
Memphis won the event last year. Ole Miss finished in third place, five strokes behind the Tigers. The Rebels won the tournament in 2006 and 2007.
"I feel good about our team and chances this week," said head coach Ernest Ross. "We have practiced hard and hope to make improvements in a few areas. We like the course and have had success there. I am impressed with the play of our two freshmen, Joe Lewis and Blake Morris."
Last week in Hattiesburg, senior Joe David led the Rebels with a 2-under 206 to earn his third career top-five finish. The 206 was a career-low 54-hole score for the Madison, Tenn. native.
Fellow senior Billy Brozovich picked up his third career top-20 placement, finishing in a tie for 14th place.
Freshmen Joe Lewis and Blake Morris were solid in their first tournament as Rebels. The two ended in a tie for 29th place.
Joining the four in the lineup will be redshirt sophomore Tom Brown. Rebounding from a wrist injury that put him out of action last season, the Hertfordshire, England native competed as an individual in Hattiesburg and matched Lewis and Morris' finish at 11-over.
