OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team will play its third straight conference match on the road Wednesday when the Rebels face the Alabama Crimson Tide at 7 p.m. at Foster Auditorium.
The Rebels are coming off a pair of weekend matches at Georgia and Auburn and are in the middle of a stretch of five matches out of six on the road in league play. The lone home contest comes on Sunday when Ole Miss will host in-state rival Mississippi State at 4 p.m. in a match televised nationally by ESPNU.
"We're facing another team with a first year head coach who has been playing with a lot of intensity," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "We've spent the week focused on our side of the net and have to clean up some areas of play there. We're anxious to see another great volleyball facility with them moving back into Foster Auditorium and there is a lot of history in that building."
Ole Miss continues to be led offensively by senior middle blocker Regina Thomas, who is second in the Southeastern Conference in hitting at a .373 clip and leads the league in blocks with 1.30 blocks per set. An All-America selection a year ago, Thomas has hit above .400 in three straight matches, including a season-high .560 with 15 kills in a win over Arkansas a week ago.
Joining Thomas on the attack is junior right side hitter Allegra Wells. Wells leads the squad with 2.70 kills per set and has a team-leading 124 kills to date. The back row defense is led by senior defensive specialist Morgan Springer who averages 3.87 digs per set, the fourth best average in the league.
Ole Miss swept both matches with the Crimson Tide a year ago on the way to the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance in five seasons.
