OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team, ranked No. 24 nationally, added another talented player to the program with the arrival of Sweden's William Kallberg, head coach Billy Chadwick announced Tuesday.

One of the top junior players in Sweden, Kallberg made it to the quarterfinals of the Swedish National Championships. He was also a member of the team that won the 2011 Swedish Men's Outdoor Team Championship.

"We're very excited William has joined our program," Chadwick said. "He's an excellent student as well as tennis player. He's a lefty with a big serve and big forehand and has lots of potential."

The native of Stockholm joins sophomore Johan Backstrom, who hails from Uppsala, as the latest in a long line of talented Rebels to come from that country.

The Rebels open the 2012 season this weekend at the SEC Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky. Their first dual match will be Jan. 26 against Southern Miss. The match begins at 1:30 p.m., at the Gillom Sports Center, and admission is free.
