FLUSHING, N.Y. - Ole Miss women's tennis junior Caroline Rohde-Moe battled the No. 1 seed and reigning SEC Player of the Year, Florida's Lauren Embree, for two hours before succumbing in a 6-3, 7-5 first round match at the USTA/ITA National Indoor here Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center.
The first set was decided by one break for Embree. She led 5-3 in the second set, but Rohde-Moe tied it up at 5 with a break of serve. Unfortunately, Embree broke back and won it 7-5 to move on to the second round.
"Caroline played a great match against the No. 1 player and had some opportunities," head coach Mark Beyers said. "I thought the level of play was very high. There is a reason Lauren is No. 1. She didn't panic. But, it was a great match for Caro. She showed that she is capable of playing with the best."
Rohde-Moe (11-5) will face Petra Januskova of Penn State in the consolation draw Friday.
