BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss women's tennis player Erin Stephens has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday.

The native of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., rallied to defeat SMU's Elena Fayner at No. 3 singles to put the Rebels up 3-1 in the match, setting up teammate Abby Guthrie's
clinching win at No 5 singles. After dropping the first set, Stephens won 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to snap a seven-match losing streak. She also teamed with Gabby Rangel for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, improving to 6-3 at that spot.

Stephens helped the Rebels snap a four-match losing streak and improve to 10-1 in home openers under head coach Mark Beyers.

This marks the second weekly conference honor for the Rebels this season. Sophomore Vivian Vlaar earned SEC Player of the Week honors Feb. 1.

The Rebels continue a three-match homestand with Southern Miss Friday at 1 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
