OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss sophomore point guard and team captain Valencia McFarland has been named to the Second Team All-SEC as voted on by the league's 12 coaches, the SEC announced today.
McFarland, who was named to this season's All-SEC Pre-Season Team, was named to the SEC All-Freshman last year.
This season, McFarland leads the team and is fifth in the SEC in scoring averaging 13.7 points per game. She has scored in double figures in 23 of the team's 29 games this season and has led or been tied for the team lead in scoring in 17 games.
McFarland has posted 13 games this season with five or more assists and has played in 17 games this year with 38 or more minutes. She recorded her first career double-double this with 14 points and 10 assists in a win over Cleveland State. McFarland recorded a career-high 25 points in a win over Alabama and a career-high 11 assists in a win over SELA.
Earlier this week, McFarland was named one of the three finalists for the C Spire Wireless/Gillom Trophy presented annually to the best collegiate female basketball player in Mississippi.
Ole Miss will open play in the SEC Tournament Thursday night taking on South Carolina at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on FSN.
