McFarland Named AP All-SEC

OXFORD, Miss. - Sophomore point guard Valencia McFarland was named to the AP All-SEC Second Team the AP announced Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier this month, McFarland was named to the Second Team All-SEC as voted on by the league's coaches.
During her sophomore campaign, McFarland led the team in scoring and was in the top 10 in the SEC averaging 13.5 points per game. She also finished the year ranked in the top 10 in the conference in assists, minutes played, steals and assist to turnover ratio. McFarland scored in double figures in 23 of the team's 30 games on the season and led or was tied for the team lead in scoring in 17 games.
McFarland posted 13 games during the season with five or more assists and played in 17 games this year with 38 or more minutes. She recorded her first career double-double this year with 14 points and 10 assists in a win over Cleveland State. McFarland recorded a career-high 25 points in a win over Alabama and a career-high 11 assists in a win over SELA.
Earlier this month, McFarland was named one of the three finalists for the C Spire Wireless/Gillom Trophy presented annually to the best collegiate female basketball player in Mississippi.
