Morris Leads Rebels In Day Two of Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Freshman Blake Morris fired a 3-under 69 and senior Joe David followed with a 1-under 71 to lead the Ole Miss men's golf team to a 286 score in the second round of the Chris Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern University.
Morris and David are currently tied for seventh place in the individual standings at 7-under for the tournament. The two sit six strokes behind current leader Ben Kohles of Virginia.
Though the Rebels shot under-par as a team for the second consecutive day, they fell to sixth place. No. 7 Alabama remains in first place after shooting a 269 to stretch its lead to 21 strokes over second place Virginia.
Morris followed up Friday's season-best 68 with another impressive round. The Waterbury, Conn., native rolled in four birdies and played a bogey-free round until the 18th hole. Morris is in position for his first career top-10 finish, but is also just two strokes behind fifth place.
David, who also fired a season-best round Friday with a 66, cruised through the first 13 holes at 4-under but ran into some trouble on the 13-17 stretch. The Madison, Tenn., native notched his fifth birdie on the final hole to finish under-par.
Tom Brown and Joe Lewis each carded a 1-over 73.
