Ole Miss Drops Afternoon Affair To No. 11 Georgia

OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman Allison Brown and sophomore Londen Ladner picked up two hits each at the plate, but No. 11 Georgia overpowered the Rebels 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
Bulldog shortstop Paige Wilson got Georgia (26-6, 6-2 SEC) on the scoreboard in the top of the second with an RBI double down the left field line that scored designated player Ashley Razey, who walked to lead off the frame. Razey extended the Bulldog lead in the fourth with a two-run home run to left center that put Georgia up 3-0.
The Rebels (13-14, 2-5 SEC) threatened in the fifth after shortstop Allison Brown and first baseman Londen Ladner both singled with one down to put runners on first and second. However, UGA starting pitcher Tess Sito got Rebel starter Kendall Bruning to ground into a double play back to the pitcher to end the inning.
Georgia left fielder Brittney Hubbard added a two-run home run to left center in the top of the sixth that extended the Bulldogs' lead to 5-0. Catcher Kristyn Sandberg knocked an RBI to left center in the seventh and Razey hit another two-run home run to put UGA up 8-0. Wilson added a solo homer to center later in the frame to make it 9-0 Bulldogs
Bruning started for Ole Miss and suffered the loss after allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work. Junior Erinn Jayjohn entered in the game in the fourth and gave up six hits and five runs in three-plus innings of relief with two strikeouts. Senior Kelly Chandler pitched the final inning and allowed one run on one hit.
The Rebels and the Bulldogs will conclude their three-game set tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
