OXFORD, Miss. - Football has the Egg Bowl. Baseball has the Governor's Cup. Tennis has the Mississippi Cup. And for the second year, men's golf will have the Egg Bowl Scramble.
In-state rivals Ole Miss and Mississippi State will tee it up on Tuesday, March 13 at Reunion Country Club in Madison, Miss., to promote the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, which will also take place at Reunion on April 2-3.
"The Egg Bowl Scramble is a great opportunity to highlight the golf programs of Ole Miss and Mississippi State in central Mississippi," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "Each team plays with bank representatives and clients. We all compete in a friendly manner for the Egg Bowl Golf Trophy. The day is great for golf and the young men on both teams."
Ole Miss took home the trophy and a $2,000 check for the program in last year's inaugural event.
Hosted by Ole Miss, the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate will feature a field that includes four of the Magnolia State's Division I golf programs: Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, and Jackson State. One current top-25 team will also compete, in No. 16 Central Florida.
