Official Pairings Announced for Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge

GREENSBORO, Ga. - The Chick-fil-A Bowl has announced the official pairings for the sixth annual Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament, which includes Ole Miss' Hugh Freeze and Sean Tuohy matching up with Mississippi State's Dan Mullen and Fred McCrary.
The tournament has a 16-team field of NCAA head coaches and celebrity alumni who will compete in a two-man scramble format over 18 holes, vying for a first-place prize of $125,000 in scholarship funds. All participating teams will receive a portion of the $520,000 total scholarship purse.
In the event's largest field to date, featured groups include conference and state rivalry pairings, as well as teams that have competed or are set to compete in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. Official group pairings include:
Group One:
Tennessee (Derek Dooley / Stanley Morgan) and NC State (Tom O'Brien / Tom Gugliotta)
Group Two:
Alabama (Nick Saban / Johnny Musso) and Virginia Tech (Frank Beamer / Dell Curry)
Group Three:
Florida State (Jimbo Fisher / Terrell Buckley) and Miami (Al Golden / Gino Torretta)
Group Four:
Maryland (Randy Edsall / Stan Gelbaugh) and Virginia (Mike London / Jim Dombrowski)
Group Five:
Wake Forest (Jim Grobe / Riley Skinner) and Clemson (Dabo Swinney / Steve Fuller)
Group Six:
Georgia Tech (Paul Johnson / Jon Barry) and Ohio State (Urban Meyer / Jeff Logan)
Group Seven:
North Carolina (Larry Fedora / Roy Williams) and South Carolina (Steve Spurrier / Sterling Sharpe)
Group Eight:
Ole Miss (Hugh Freeze / Sean Tuohy) and Mississippi State (Dan Mullen / Fred McCrary)
The nation's premier head coach and celebrity golf event will be held April 29 - May 1 at the Reynolds Plantation resort on Lake Oconee outside Atlanta. In the past five years, the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge has provided $2.55 million in scholarship and charitable contributions.
In addition to the $520,000 scholarship purse, a $135,000 charitable donation will be made to Chick-fil-A's WinShape Homes. The Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge is a significant contributor to the Chick-fil-A Bowl's overall charitable and scholarship donations, which total more than $13 million since 2002, making the Chick-fil-A Bowl college football's most charitable bowl game.
The tournament is being taped by ESPN for broadcast in August and December. Specific air dates will be announced this summer.
