LEXINGTON, Ky. - The No. 14 nationally ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team won the doubles point at No. 6 Kentucky, but the Wildcats rebounded in singles for a 5-2 win at the Boone Tennis Complex here Sunday.

With the loss, the Rebels are now 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the SEC. With Mississippi State winning at Vanderbilt, Ole Miss will host the Bulldogs Saturday at 1 p.m. with a chance for a share of the SEC West.

Kentucky won at No. 3 doubles, and then the 12th-ranked twin tandem of Marcel Thiemann and Chris Thiemann won 8-4 at No. 2. Nik Scholtz and Jonas Lutjen followed up with a huge 8-6 win against the nation's 17th-ranked team at No. 1 to clinch the point.

Kentucky came out firing in singles and picked up straight set wins at four, three and five in that order to go up 3-1. That match was clinched when seventh-ranked Eric Quigley finished off a three-set win against 19th-ranked Scholtz at No. 1 singles. Scholtz won the first set 6-4, but Quigley came back to win it 6-3, 6-2.

Marcel was the lone winner in singles for the Rebels, knocking off 18th-ranked Alex Musialek 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Marcel is now 9-1 in the SEC.

"We played well in doubles. They played really well at three and four. At five we had some looks, but they played well," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Now we just have to get ready to host a tough Mississippi State team for the SEC West. We need a big crowd to come out Saturday and help us take down the Bulldogs."
