OXFORD, Miss. - With the dog days of August in full swing, the Ole Miss football team moved inside to the Indoor Practice Facility for Wednesday's practice as the team gears up for Saturday's season opener against Central Arkansas.
First-year head coach Hugh Freeze rewarded his squad with a practice out of the summer heat after a tough fall camp.
"We just want to get the players out of the heat a little bit," said Freeze. "I felt like throwing them a bone would bring a little more energy to practice. It's been a long four weeks and anything we can do to get a little more out of them is helpful and I think they enjoyed it. I think their legs are getting back and they are where they need to be."
Freeze was also pleased with how the offense responded after a lackluster practice yesterday.
"I thought they really bounced back and did some good things today," said Freeze. "We had a few mental mistakes at the end, but no doubt they were better today."
Freeze noted that the staff would decide on starting quarterback for Saturday after watching film tonight.
"We are going to go in and watch the film hard today and we will make a decision before we leave tonight," said Freeze. "We have been charting a lot of things and will let the team know tomorrow."
Running back Jeff Scott was limited again during today's practice and Freeze said he," is day-to-day, but probably doubtful for Saturday."
The Rebels kick off the 2012 season Sept. 1 in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium against Central Arkansas at 6 p.m. For Ole Miss gameday information or to buy season tickets, visit the Rebels' gameday site, OleMissFB.com, or call 888-REB-TKTS (732-8587).
