PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The Ole Miss men's golf team opened the 2013 spring season on Sunday at the John Hayt Invitational hosted at the Sawgrass Country Club.
The Rebels fired a round of 23-over par 311 and currently sit in 15th place after the first round. Junior Tom Brown paced Ole Miss with a 4-over par 76, while sophomore Joe Lewis and freshman Forrest Gamble both carded rounds of 6-over par 78. Sophomore Blake Morris and freshman Connor Davis both rounded out the Rebel five some with rounds of 7-over 79.
"We played poorly today - all 5 guys," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "I am surprised and disappointed. We have been preparing for this course for a while. Winds were light and scores were lower than usual. We made more doubles and big numbers than almost any other round ever. It's time to work on error correction."
North Florida leads the team leaderboard after the first round with a team total of 12-under par 276. The second round of the John Hayt Invitational tees off tomorrow, with the third and final round taking place on Tuesday.
